I was saddened to hear today of the passing of Ian Gallahar.

Ian was a long time member of the Dublin Wheelers CC, first as a rider and then as a distinguished organiser and Commissaire. 

I first met Ian as a kid because he was a friend of my Dads, but got to know him better when I started racing myself. The other morning, for the first time, I was told by a Garda to get off the road and on to a bike lane. He found it necessary to flash the blue lights on his van while he was telling me so it was all very official!

Scalextric, the famous car racing game, now comes in a velodrome version with two GB clad riders who can race each other around a banked track. 

I assume you can do head to head sprints and inidvidual pursuits but I'm not sure a keirin would work too well!

All part of their "aim to provide a high-quality, efficient and courteous level of service to all of our customers".

It was tiring just walking up!

The title was won very convincingly by Mark Dowling of Team Dectek, with defending champion Ryan Sherlock having to settle for silver. It's got loads of great old newsreels, including lot's of cycling ones.

I found this today. It's a silent film showing the competitors in the Irish 25 Mile Cycling Champs, possibly in 1921.
